When God Feels Far

There are seasons in life when God feels distant. Maybe you’ve stopped praying regularly, or life has grown so loud that you can’t hear His voice anymore. But here’s the truth: God hasn’t moved — we have.

James 4:8 tells us, “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” This isn’t a complicated formula; it’s a simple promise. God isn’t waiting for perfection — He’s waiting for presence. Even a whisper of prayer, a verse read in quiet surrender, or a song sung with a weary heart is enough to reconnect.
Start small. Open your Bible, even if it’s just for five minutes. Speak to God honestly, even if you don’t know what to say. Sometimes, the most powerful prayer is simply, “Help me.”
Psalm 34:18 reminds us, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” Your weakness doesn’t disqualify you — it draws God closer. He meets us in our emptiness, our confusion, and our questions.
You don’t have to fix yourself before coming back to God. He welcomes you as you are. Like the father in the story of the prodigal son, He runs to meet us the moment we turn back.
So if your heart feels distant today, don’t wait for a perfect moment. Let this be the moment. One step, one prayer, one breath in God’s direction — that’s all it takes.
God hasn’t let go of you.
